From 2005-2007, this podcast was hosted by a "nice Jewish couple" (and their baby girl!) living in the buckle of the Bible Belt. Eric and Raya talked about married life, Sophie Arielle, the Simpsons, Judaism, and anything else which wandered across their brains.

Jews in Alabama, Episode #12
A pre-Yom Kippur podcast. We talk about our trip to Atlanta, a gay Jewish banjo, the resolution of the Podcast Alley brouhaha, and there's lots of lamb noises. 36 minutes, 43 seconds.
I'm glad you guys liked Girlyman! I saw them open for Catie Curtis a little over a year ago and have since acquired all their CDs. As for the gay Jewish banjo... I'm pretty sure that Ty is Jewish (that's the genderqueer one).
As for the Podcast Alley/Podcast Pickle issue, while I certainly have a lot to say about the censorship issue, I appreciate your OTHER reasons for supporting Podcast Pickle even more. Good stuff.
And Ikea! Even though some of their furniture falls apart pretty quickly (some of it does not), I really try to support them because they are very progressive and vocal about their support of LGBT issues. They have wonderful commercials featuring gay families (which you can see at http://www.commercialcloset.org if you're interested).
I agree with Rebecca about Ikea... their ads are nicely done. I don't care about the orientation of the couple, I just want them living in committed, long-term relationships. I'm old fashioned that way. :-)
Eric is such a darn carnivore! I have never felt so conspicuously vegetarian as I did last night as I was listening to the podcast and Eric kept making these sadistic sheep noises and I kept cringing... my daughter eats meat, but she doesn't delightedly make cow noises the whole time. I guess Eric is more in touch with his carnivore side, and that's good.
I love the story how the Baal Shem Tov remarked to a shochet who was spitting on his knife as he sharpened it that the shochet before him had a slightly different way to moisten his knife -- he wet his knife with his tears.
OH!!! ERIC!!! THE VIDEO AND BLACK iPod is out!!!! KICK ASS!!!!
This is totally ruining my contemplative Yom Kippur day, man. My daughter's 12th birthday is today and she is saving her money for a nano, and I want to start saving for the NEW AND BLACK VIDEO(!!!!! HEE! HEE! !!!!!) 60 gig, but I am supposed to be doing charity so I get written into the book o' life! Dang, G-d is toyin' with us, using Jobs as a Satan. I need to do major mussar work this year and get a handle on my yetzer hara.
I just buckled down and donated money to a shul in New Orleans' recovery fund, but it hurt. People in the next cubicle can definitely hear my yelling silently "NEW iPOD! BLACK! SHINY! THINNER! VIDEO!"
Hey Guys- Hope you had an easy fast. I found this great place that has kosher food but even better, a lot of Israeli food. And tons of Judaica not found at your local synagogue gift shop. Its called ISRAEL! :) And there is even an Ikea!
I understand completely about the Ikea run. The closest one to me is all the way in Pittsburgh and that is a bit of a haul. I loved the podcast. I enjoy Eric’s perspective as a convert. Thank you and keep up the good work!
Hello all....loving the comments, thanks so much!!!!!
Rebecca, I'm not surprised that you're cool enough to have seen Girlyman in concert. We really enjoyed their show. I haven't had time to check out IKEA's progressive commercials, but will do so ASAP! So far, the chairs we bought have not fallen apart!! :)
Donnie, yeah. That part confused me too. If you're eating all vegetables, why can't you eat potato chips? Unless there are some new beef-potato chips from Lays I'm not aware of. Will listen to episode #8 of Radio Free SC today!
Lee, sorry for the carnivorous noises. Wasn't my intent to offend -- actually, our silent observer David started all the baaaaa-ing with a note he scribbled, and it kind of went downhill from there.
New black video iPod looks cool, but I still don't regret getting the Nano. I pretty much listen to podcasts exclusively on the iPod, and it's so nice and small and light. Makes it easier to carry everywhere I go...
Carol, you don't say? Israel has kosher food AND Judaica AND an IKEA? No wonder y'all moved there!! Haven't had a chance to listen to your latest show yet, but will soon.
Marquise, welcome to our show, thanks for commenting!! It is kind of a bummer to be 2.5 hours from the Ikea....but yet, until the Atlanta one opened, we weren't even within a day's drive of the nearest store. So it's all in perspective, I guess!!

An easy fast to all, and G'mar chatima tova.
